Public services are now delivered through a variety of agencies and changes to the mechanisms for delivering public services together with the increased emphasis on partnership working have brought with them new challenges for management and for management development.  Traditionally the MBA has been the premier qualification for senior managers and aspiring managers in the private sector and now managers from the public sector are following this qualification route.

The Public Service Management MBA course offered by Brighton Business School is designed for experienced managers and professionals wishing to develop their managerial capability and their careers. Part time block release study allows the maximum transfer of knowledge and new ideas from course to workplace and vice versa, offering benefits for employers as well as a widely recognised management qualification for the individual.

It enables practising and potential managers to think critically and develop themselves and their organisations. The Public Service Management MBA places a special emphasis on areas of management particularly relevant to the public services, including the third sector.

The course focuses on management development by building the knowledge, confidence and competencies to address complex business problems in a fast-changing global business environment. The course also emphasises the need for ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ management skills, promoting problem-solving, communication, multi-disciplinary thinking, team work and intercultural management skills. In addition, consultancy and research skills are enhanced through specialist workshops.

You learn the latest theories, models and concepts of managing functions and organisations. The emphasis is on developing the knowledge in an applied and integrated way. Your written projects will link an area of learning to your work situation.
